Besides, if the number of followers of a religion who willingly die on it’s behalf is an index of its legitimacy, Islam has got Christianity beat by a mile!" You’ve got to look at how the people die. For instance both Koresh and Jones had set themselves up nicely as religious leaders, when the authorities threatened to come in and spoil it. (I’m not necessarily suggesting either of these men were insincere, just that there was another motive for their death). Muslims will willingly die in battle for Islam, which does tell us a great deal about their religious fervour, but again in wars it is common for people to sacrifice their lives out of loyalty to their side. With the Apostles and other Early Christians, generally they sacrificed their lives when by denying Christ they could have saved them. It is true that you can look at the psychology of the cult and of religious fanaticism, but the fact is that Jesus inspired such loyalty. If they knew the resurrection to be a hoax, it is unlikely that the Apostles would have been so willing to die. I would agree with you that the "Why did the Apostles die ?" argument is not as waterproof as some people claim (for instance you could have had a "Buddy Holly Lives" scenario where devoted followers refuse to accept the fact that their idol is dead). However it is still powerful evidence that Jesus did in fact rise. * Sent from AltaVista http://www.altavista.com Where you can also find related Web Pages, Images, Audios, Videos, News, and Shopping.  Smart is Beautiful
