Question:
MENJ, you are really ignorant. You need only look at the declining populations of minortiy religions in Islamic countries all over the world to see that Islam is the most intolerant religion. If you can find one or two small spots on the earth where Muslims aren’t killing members of other religions, that in no way negates RNS’s observations. Please stop your lying. This NG is not for you. This is a joke, considering that merely being a Christian or Jew can be dangerous in a Muslim country. It is illegal to have a Bible in one’s possession in Saudi Arabia, yet Muslims demand better treatment in non-Muslim lands. If they wish that kind of tolerance, they should begin with tolerance of others first.
Saudi Arabia is hardly representative of Islam as a whole. Most Muslims I know are tolerant of other religions.

Okay, that’s fair, perhaps I should have limited my statements to Arabic Muslim countries. However, the laws and actions in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Kuwait, Bahrain, etc. With very few exceptions, and even those are getting more extreme with the rise of fundamentalism, there are few, if any, rights offered to other religions, let alone official recognition. Please, stop your malice. This NG is not for you.
It was not malice, it was shock at what I saw as hypocrisy. Also, I’m not sure which ng you thing I shouldn’t be a part of, as this is cross posted to 5 groups. I cannot remove the others, because I am using RemarQ. Perhaps SA isn’t representative of Muslims, but it sets the law for Sunni Islam at the very least. Some countries are stricter in their interpretation, few are more lenient, but they tend to be secular governments and not Muslim states. However, to deny SA’s role in Islam is folly, SA is like Catholocism’s Vatican, only with more force since that is where the Ka’aba is and that is where Muhammed began and finished his ministry. Regards, Ranee – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Muslims demand Official Recognition of Islam in Italy Rome (IINA): There are 1.5 million Muslims in Italy, of various origins, and had started to immigrate to it since the 1930s. The total Italian population is 65,000,000, and Islam is the second religion, after Christianity. The President of the Muslim Association, who is also head of the Islamic Academy of Italy, Sheikh Abdul Wahid Balalfasini, said that among the most important problems facing the Muslims in Italy is the government’s refusal to officially recognise Islam, but is prepared to do so on one condition. The condition is that the Muslims themselves must first unite and then conclude an agreement with the government, and based on that agreement the government would recognise the Islamic religion, and that way Muslims would be accorded all their rights. But the Muslims have no time, he said, nor do they have the resources for organising themselves and deciding on someone who would represent them at government level and demand their rights. However, the mosques and Islamic centres in Italy do try to bring together the Muslims and serve their needs, but, sadly enough, there is no coordination between them, and for this reason Muslims cannot have access to many of their rights. Sheikh Abdul Wahid said that in the last few years there have been calls in Europe for the holding of dialogue between religions, and some have even suggested that dialogue is the only way to go. He said public opinion in the West in general has started to understand the issues concerning Islam, and to sympathise with them.
