I have a very good friend who has made friends with a group of people who are muslim, from Albania and Croatia – and she tells me stories that they’ve told her – of horror-filled things that happened. But where it’s most telling is in ordinary conversation . . . "Did you learn that in school?"  "No, we weren’t allowed to go to school."  Or speak their own language, or practice their religion.  And something like the Bill of Rights here in America is incomprehensible to them. My friend carries a gun – she has a concealed weapon permit (this is Texas, after all) – and all of this group of friends was *shocked* – that she was even allowed to own a gun. It’s pretty sad and scary, when you think about it. Where I grew up, not really, although they were looked down upon by local city snobs. Probably because lot of them came from rural areas. But I’m not aware of much haltered for Muslims specifically. Not any more than all the other tribal bickering that’s been going on there for a thousand or so years.

Muslims are lower life forms, on par with roaches and bacterial infections.  They invade an area, then promptly putrify it like any other bacterial infection, nature of the beast. Unfortunatly, certin people claim that Islamics are the same species as western people, and they islmic bacteria develop delusions of grandure. Will advocate equality of islamic homo sapiens right after we pass civil rights legislation making it illegal to discriminate against stripe bacteria cultures.

I think you have to look at each ethnic group in the context of its own history.  There are some similarities, certainly–for example, in the recent treatment of the Bosnians by the Serbs.  But I wouldn’t go so far as to equate the recent Bosnian experience with that of the Jews in Poland in the 1940s.

Not only that, but there have been concentration camps in those parts in WWII… Over there, everyone likes to discriminate against everyone else. If you as me, too many people in too little space. How that plays out in the Arab Middle East is a separate matter. Again, I think there are some bad feelings connected with recent Balkan events but, towards Americans and Europeans, perhaps less because they played an active role in the persecution of the Bosnians than that they are perceived as not having done enough to prevent or stop it.  The most active supporters of the Serbs were the Russians.

This sentiment about not havign done enough to stop itis exactly what it is. Well, at least according to the feedback *I* get from over there (back home). But if you ask me… Over there, they always have expected little too much help from the rest of the world… Arab resentment of Americans  and Europeans, I think, is rooted more in Palestine/Israel issues.

Yea, and the US policies in those parts… due to oil and other economic interests… Just remember wars…  The underlying cause is always money, wealth,greed.. Economy. Religion and ethnicity is just a way to manipulate (rile up) the masses with a noble excusre for their financial goals.  Then you have war and all the other ugly stuff.  In the end it’s all about moneyand territory… Getting ourselves the most comfortable survival, even if that means exterminating other groups (tribes….).

From what I know, in some places this may be a fair statement. In others, not a fair statement. Like Israelis and Palestinians, there were/are a variety of living and cultural interactions and situations. is that why the middle east is so angry at anglos?

Everyone in the Middle East is not Islamic. Not all Islamics are angry at anglos (is that the same as the US, or do you specifically mean ‘people descended from the Anglos?). Not all Islamics who are angry at ‘anglos’ are in or from the Middle East. There aren’t short answers to the source of some people’s anger, and there aren’t short answers as to why that anger has taken on the variety of forms that it has. Of course just because there aren’t easy answers doesn’t mean that people won’t believe that there are.

Historically, much of western culture depends upon islamic culture. Medicine, mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, law. The west went through a period known as the Dark Ages during which islamic savants preserved and developed knowledge in all fields of human endeavour. At least you did use the word "preserve".  Arabs are much more responsible for *preserving* some knowledge (early Greek scientific texts) than they are for discovering knowledge.

Yes, they preserved what was in the Library of Alexandria, which they destroyed in 625 AD.  Islamics, especially Arabic Islamics are incapable of higher brain functions.

I always question why people advocate for enemies, what are you trying to gain? The only reason the Islamic animals were able to attack is because America and the west in general allows them entry into our territory, stuck in some mud hut in Saudi Arabia, they might not have even seen an airplane, let alone learn how to fly and steal one. No, those that advocate for the "equality of man" only do so because they have nothing to lose, they are on the outside looking in and trying to take what someone else has. Arabia, most of the world, has nothing to offer, and even if they did, it doesn’t matter, they are all lower life forms, do not give any credit to what a lower life form has to say, and even if they had the answer to immortality itself, would still shoot them dead on the spot, better no one has it, than an enemy or everyone having it. Stating that it’s narrow minded to discriminate against islam.  Islam is the enemy, islam must be eliminated.  While GW gets most things wrong, he’s gotten one right, You are either wish us in the war against the islamic terrorists, or you are not, which side are you on?

Immigration is a huge issue in and of itself, at one point it served a legitimate purpose, we didn’t have enough people.  We no longer have that problem, so we sholdn’t allow immigration anymore. The "Big Sky" answer is no, immigrants do not count as Americans. That would seem to follow from your criteria of who counts as American.

Technically it’s people who are born and raised here, however for historical reasons, we had a large immigrant population, that was always ment to be a transitionary state.  What about the children of immigrants?

Technically yes, children of immigrants qualify as "true" americans, but see below.  Does the taint magically disappear when they learn English?

Nothing magical about it, it’s a decision, and it takes time, from the time a person gives up their old heritage and aquires ours, it takes about 20 years for them to be indistinquishable from a native born american, but it varys significantly from person to person, and quite a few people never assimilate. Rule of thumb is that the children or grand children of immigrants would be considered "true" americans, i.e. like everyone else. And what about Americans who are multilingual?  Are they less American because they speak more than one language?

ABSOLUTLY YES! Anyone that speak anything else other than english, maintains their native garb, culture, religion, etc, is not an american, they are actually worse than forigners because they are comtaiminating our country with their culture of shit.  And all other cultures are shit. And what about the language itself?  What counts as "real" American English? What’s spoken in Bluefield, the bayou country, Brighton Beach, Window Rock, LA, Miami Beach, or Hilo?

American English, and the british differentiate, is what you hear spoken on the major networks by the Anchor people, it’s the non-dialect variety, all others show poor upringing.  Yes they are americans, just "white trash"(regardless of color) americans. we eat at McDonalds, How many Big Macs do I need to eat a year to be American?  Am I more American, the more I eat?  What if I swear off Big Macs and fast food altogether? What if my doctor says I can’t eat any more hamburgers or french fries?  Do I have to turn in my American citizenship?  Suppose I become a vegetarian?

It’s not what "Brand" you eat, or even how much, the fact is we are in America, America has it’s own food, I should never ever see a Taco stand, or Chinesse food, or Italian food, those are foriegn inventions, get them the fuck off our soil. we think and act certain ways, everyone else in the world is at best inferior and irreverent, at worst a threat(like Islam), Is there a religion in your American identity kit?  Seems like you’re implying that being Islamic is to be a threat per se to the US.

It’s explicitly stated in their belief system, other religions do it to, but Islamics are the ones blowing up buildings, not Hinus or Buddiststs. What about the Americans who are Muslim?

That’s currently the debate, can someone be both or not, if we go to war, which side do they fall on?  The Germans, Italians, Japaneese have already been though it during the last few wars, but they were nations of origion, they left their homelands to become Americans(in theory at least) It’s a rather significant jump from immirating to a new nation and becoming another nationality, than changing a religous beleif system, personally, I wouldn’t bet *your* life that the "american muslims" wouldn’t turn on us in a second.  Or Jewish or Unitarian or Hindu or Buddhist or Shinto or Taoist or atheists or agnostics?  Are you saying that only Christians count as Americans?  If so, which of the American Christian sects represent the "real" Americans?

In a purest sence, 100% true, only "protestant christians" are americans, they are the ideal, everyone should imitate them.  Of course you get ALOT of leway being protestant.  The Catholics (or do they not really  count as Christian?

It’s old, old history, two basic types of Christians, Catholics(the origional church) and everyone else(who is protestant to some extent). Both are "christian" they just argue over points, most notably, the pope or lack there of. threats are eliminated with extreme prejudice, no quarter, no mercy, no negotiating, no compromise. If you are not an American, and /or have different views and ways, well you are a lower life form, and should be shot. Go back to the sentence where you say, "we think and act [in] certain ways." Your claim is so manifestly false it’s just plain silly. What you probably mean to say is, "we *should* think and act in certain ways."  Or only people who act and think in certain ways should be called American.

If you beleive something, you act in accordance with that beleif, no *should* about it.  You either are, or you are not. Which means, in turn, is that you don’t really understand the first thing about your own country. This country isn’t based on shared traits of identity.  It’s based on a constitution that says it’s okay for us to be as diverse as we are. Regardless of what self-important, self-appointed oracles like you may say as to who does and does not count as American.

The only people who want diverstiy are the pathetically weak diverse, those who would be crushed by majority rule, it worked out well when america didn’t have a majority of anything other than a bunch of malcontents and other nation’s surplus population. America has changed, we are now the ruling empire, to stay with the "hope of the hopless" menatlity means we are giving our stuff away, and why would I ever want to do that. It’s not like the "diverse" of the world have anything of value to offer, they are dismal failures.
