Folks:    The above text indicates that there are people who believe in Satanic Ritual Abuse.  I myself am a skeptic.    Let us start with the claim that 40,000 or so children are being sacri- ficed to Satan (hence the disappearances).  No evidence to back up these claims.  I could just as easily say that Hillary R. Clinton eats children every night in the name of Lilith.  I have no proof, of course, so it is an empty claim.  I wish to point out that disposing of 40,000 corpses is no easy task.    Let us go next to the Ritual Abuse survivors.  I believe that they make up a lot of their statements.  That is, it comes out of their fervid imagi- nations.  They remind me of the people who would make up stories about how they were witches who flew through the air.  They were on drugs.  These Ritual Abuse people may not be on any drug except the need for attention.    I will sum up by saying that if people want to believe in this nonsense, go on ahead.  But be careful of who you accuse.  This is 1996, not 1596. — *                                                             * *     Defender of Liberalism     Scourge of the Right Wing    * *     Proud owner of             an Amiga 2000 computer       * *     Embrace knowledge          Cast out hysteria            * *                                                             *

Response:

I don’t have any experience with Satanic Ritual Abuse so I cannot help you with your survey. I was however abused by good "Christian" parents.  The abuse was so severe I have MPD and at the age of 41 am just now learing how to have feelings.  Thank the Goddess, She is teaching me how to love and be. Valentine @—— PS.  I don’t want you to ge the idea that I am saying that abuse is a feature of the Christian religion, it just happened that my parents were "Christians".  I put it in parentheses because I feel the problem was with them, not their religion.  I have respect for all paths.

Response:

i was abused by christains too, and i also have MPD. But, i don’t blame xtains, so they shouldn’t blame me ( a Wiccan ) for what satanists do. love, hugs and bloody kisses, melannie

dear sir, no disrespect of your religion is intended in this reply, however i am assuming that you are indeed a serious researcher and therefore need this information.  it is my hope that you have chosen to post to alt.religion.wicca because you know that some ritual abuse survivors have come to Wicca as a religion because of the healing they recieve within our community and not from some misguided understanding that Wiccans perpetuate this type of abuse.   statistics show that most ‘ritual abuse’ occurs in christian households. ‘generational satanism’  (the ‘label’ which was used by a survivor for the cult which abused her (quoted in Green Egg magazine Lughnasad 1988), not to be confused with the Church of Satan or the Temple of Set or other organized ‘Satanic’ churches, which have not been shown to be involved in ritual abuse) is an outspring of christianity (wiccans do not believe in ’satan’) and that ‘generational satanists’ borrow from christianity more than from ancient paganism in their abusive rites.  please also understand that Wiccans are horrified by anyone who would perpetuate such abuse.  in 1988, due to the libelous connection of our communities with this practice, the pagan community drafted the following resolution:      "Resolution to be circulated for adoption by Pagan and Craft groups and subsequently to be issued to media, police, and the Cult Crime Impact Network:  We as practioners of Pagan and Neo-Pagan religions, including Wicca (also known as Witchcraft) practive a positive, life affirming faith that is dedicated towards healing, both of ourselves and others, and of the Earth.  As such, we do not advocate or condone criminal activites.  We absolutely condemn the practices of child abuse, sexual abuse, substance abuse, and any other abuse that does harm to the bodies, minds or spirits of individuals.  We offer prayers and support for the healing of victims of such abuses.  We recognize the divinity of Nature in our Mother the Earth, and practice our rites of worship in a manner that is ethical, legal and safe.  We will not tolerate slander or libel against our churches, clergy or congregations, and are prepared to defend our civil rights with such legal actions as we deem necessary and appropriate." This resolution has been accepted by the major portion of the Neo-Pagan and Pagan communities, including, but not limited to (I was working from the 1988 figures, which are very sparce): unanimous adoption at the 1988 Pagan ecuminical conferences (Ancient Ways, Heartland Pagan Festival and Pagan Spirit Gathering) and by the following organizations: Covenant of the Goddess, Church of All Worlds and the United Wiccan Church.  Since that time, most other organized Neo-Pagan, Pagan and Wiccan groups have also adopted it. In addition, there were funds developed within the Neo-Pagan community to assist Survivors of ritual abuse and there is a list of Pagan therapists who are willing to donate their time to counsel Survivors.   To quote from the _Law Enforcement Guide to Wicca_ article on "Ritualistic, Cult or Occult Crime": "In the first place, criminality is rarely motvated by a person’s religion beliefs.  It is far more common for the reverse to be true: That a person will use their beliefs to rationalize or excuse their crimilaity.  Despite the hysterical claims frequently seen nowadays in the popular press, Satanism and/or the ‘occult’ are rarely the beliefs used to rationalize criminal behaviour. It is far more common to find mainstream religious beliefs such as Christianity used for this purpose in our society." … "The majority of the reported sexual abuse involving priests concerns perpetrators who are Christian clergy, not Satanic.  Yet we do not hear the law enforcement community talking about "Christian crime", "Moslem crime", etc, in such cases.  Nor is there any need to.  Most Christians are law abiding.  But it is not in the best interests of many of these so called ‘occult crime experts’ to point this out, as many of them have hidden agendas: it would work against their desire to promote their own beliefs as an alternative or cure for the problems which they percieve." As I said in the beginning, I assume that you are indeed a serious researcher, not someone who wishes to create an hysterical and libelous report simply to fill your own agenda (as many ‘occult crime experts’ have been known to do), therefore I recommend to you the following reading for your research:      _Law Enforcement Guide to Wicca_ by Kerr Cuhulain.  available thru Horned Owl Publishing, 3906 Cadboro Bay Rd, Victoria, B.C., V8N 4G6.  This publication is written by a law enforcement officer for law enforcement officers to educate them on Wicca as a religion and to dispell the myths surrounding Wicca.  It contains a very extensive and helpful bibliography.      _Witchcraft, Satanism and Occult Crime_ available thru Nemeton, P.O. contains information on therapists available to work with Survivors, Survivors organizations and a letter from a Survivor as well as final adaption of the resolution on ritual abuse. Finally, I might also suggest that a more appropriate place to post this survey would have been on alt.abuse-recovery, alt.abuse.recovery or alt.sexual.abuse.recovery or on some of the .christian groups. Posting it only on this newsgroup does make it appear as if you have a religious bias against Wiccans and shows a lack of understanding of the nature of Wicca, again, unless your "years of experience with SRA clients, " has demonstrated to you that abuse survivors may end up in Wicca as a healing process.  I hope that the later, rather than a misguided attempt to slander our religion is the case. For further information, or a full text copy of Green Egg’s article on Ritual abuse, published in GE Magazine Lughnasadh 1988, please feel free never thirst, cat

OH JOY! Just what the world needs, another round of this crap. To the so-called counselor I say start actually paying attention to that Psych minor, especially the bit on scientific method (You’ll find the evidence for SRA is about non-existant)         I still recall the first round of this hysteria and it oh-so-logical argument that the total absence of evidence means the conspiracy is so big that they can cover everything up.There are still families hurting from the strife  the investigators caused and the false memories they induced.         _Wolfrose —  ** Wolfrose               **"Sorry kid, Vampires I know. (Major Snip) Excuse Me for asking what may seem like a strange question, but why did you send this request to alt.religion.wicca?  I noticed in your headers that you did not send this survey to any other religious group.  Why us? Laura
