Question:
Reading the dialogue between you two tells me very clearly and reinforces my opinion that gods are man made and just do not exist. Reading your inance comments convinces me that YOU do not exist. God certainly does.
well HE is not writing this – I am Have you personally SEEN ANYTHING from your god apart from what you have read about [from books written by humans] or what others have told you? Bob "There are two things in the world that can never get together- religion & common sense." [George W. Foote] 1) How would you define God, and why are you so convinced that there is one? 2) If everything needs a creator, then who or what created God? 3) How can something that cannot be described be said to exist? 4) Since there are countless religions in the world today claiming to be the one true religion , why do you think yours is truer than theirs? 5) Can more than one of these religions be right? 6) If you feel in your heart that your religion is the right one, how do you answer those of other faiths who claim the same thing? 7) How do you settle the debate and find out which of these religions, if any, is the right one?
Why does God allow all these false religions to exist? 9) Is the bloody history of Christianity consistent with what is supposed to be a religion of love, or does it simply illustrate the consequences of abandoning reason for faith? 10) If everything is the product of a grand design by an omniscient, benevolent designer, why is the history of life a record of horrible suffering, blundering waste, and miserable failures? Why does this God go through billions of years of such carnage without yet arriving at His goal? 11) Why did God intervene so many times in human affairs during antiquity (according to the Bible) and yet not do anything during the Holocaust of the Second World War? 12) Why should one1s inner convictions about the existence of God indicate that He/She/They/It exists outside of that person1s mind? 13) Can a God who would abandon His children when they needed him the most still be considered all good? 14) If something is not rational, should it be believed anyway? 15) If the God of the Bible is all good, why does He himself say that He created evil? (Isaiah 45:7) 16) Is there a better way than reason to acquire knowledge and truth? 17) If you would answer #16 with faith, then why are there so many contradictory faiths in the world? 18) Is comfort more important to you than intellectual integrity? 19) What would it take to convince you that you are wrong? 20) If nothing can convince you that you are wrong, then why should your faith be considered anything other than a cult? 21) If an atheist lives a decent, moral life, why should a loving, compassionate God care whether or not we believe in Him/Her/It? 22) Why do so many religious people thank God when they survive a disaster, yet fail to be angry with him for causing the disaster in the first place? 23) If you demand that the atheist disprove the Judeo-Christian God, are you prepared to disprove the existence of Zeus, Odin, Ra and all the other ancient gods and goddesses? 24) Why is the number of atheists in prisons disproportionally much smaller than their numbers in the general population? 25) Is the brutal, vengeful and bloodthirsty God as depicted in the Old Testament still a loving God? 26) Should any religion that demands we elevate faith over reason be trusted? 27) How can the same God that, according to the Old Testament, killed everybody on Earth except for four people be considered as anything other than evil? 28) Is the acceptance of religious mysticism, magic and miracles consistent with our understanding of good mental health? 29) Must we hate our families and ourselves in order to be good Christians? (Luke 14:26) 30) Since the ancient world abounded with tales of resurrected Savior-Gods that were supposed to have returned from the dead to save humanity, why is the Jesus myth any truer than all the others? 31) If the Bible is the standard for morality, why does it not forbid slavery and war? 32) If the Bible is the inerrant word of God, why does it contain so many factual errors, such as the two contradictory accounts of Creation in Genesis? 33) Why isn1t the Bible written in a straightforward way that leaves no doubt about what it means? 34) The last time Christianity attained total power, it resulted in the Dark Ages, so why should we expect anything different from Christian fundamentalists today? 35) Has anyone ever been killed in the name of atheism? 36) Why does history show that every time a fundamentalist religion has gained power, tyranny and persecutions have soon followed? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – John W If they did, do you think this dialogue would be taking place? Because they preach a corrupt and totally heretical brand of Christianity. If humans have no soul, there is no reason for anyone to follow Christ with the aim of being with Him in the afterlife. This is dangerous. Compared with the other 25,000+ protestant denominations in the world, the Adventists are quite good at what they do…lulling people into heresy. Al
I believe Adventists believe that the Resurrection is when people come back out of the state known as "sleep". To argue too much against the Adventists is to deny the Resurrection. Something is raised from the dead during the Resurrection. There were early Church writers who considered it gnostic teaching (heresy) to believe that the soul/spirit of man abandons the body and immediately goes to heaven. And there a plentitude of reasons to follow Jesus besides believing in an immediate reuniting in heaven with Jesus quickly upon death. You believe he is the way, the truth and the life. You want to love more. You want to see the Kingdom of God in its fullness. You love God. You realize you are a sinner and want to be healed. None of these have anything to do with immediate reuniting with Jesus upon death, in heaven. – Richard Hutnik

One could say, if all go to heaven and are already with Christ, what need is there for a resurrection? The greatest curse of humans must be their extended freakish brains. I reckon the most contented were early Homo Sapiens. They had no speech and certainly could not write – I bet they were happy without gods to fear.
Where do you get this information? Homo sapiens has always had language. Even Homo neanderthalensis sees to have had some spoken language. The fact reamins that we see culture as far back as we see Homo sapiens, and we pass on culture primarily orally. Further, all evidence seems to suggest that the further back you go, the more animate our ancestors believed the natural world was. So, if they were happy, they were happily, heavily, supernaturalistic. I wonder who dreamed up the first gods? Early Homo Sapens? The Neanderthals? Maybe early modern man.
Depends on who you believe… Tylor, Durkheim, Jung… It is essentially idle speculation. Those Apes have a lot to answer for…..
Homo sapiens is not among the apes; they/we are hominids. Bipedalism is not a trait possessed by apes. – Joseph — "One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the rest of the community." — Albert Einstein

I am not SDA, but I do know a few, and they believe that people have a spirit. In fact, as per the typical translation from the Hebrew, only Calvinists believe that people have no spirits. In the Hebrew, Ruach (Spirit) and Nefesh (Soul) are two different things. The Nefesh is the immortal life force given by God when a being becomes alive. A ruach (spirit) is the ability to choose one’s actions and make moral decisions. An animal has a nefesh, but it has no ruach; a human has both. You are not SDA, so ask someone who studied their "theology" for many years. Moi.
You are Catholic, you only studied anti-SDA propaganda. I would not ask a non-Catholic what Catholics believe any more than I would ask a non-SDA what SDA’s believe. They DO believe that humans have both Spirits and Souls. When you die, you die and there is no spirit, according to those groups. Okay, you meant "soul" (nefesh). According to the SDA, JW’s, Mormons, and even the mainstream Protestants Humans all have souls. they disagree with eachother on what happens to the sould after death (straight to judgement, or wait till Judgement Day). Please check your "facts" before making false accusations. Niet. They are heretics and do not believe in anything that survives the body after death. This is a FACT.
No, it is not. They believe that after death your soul sleeps until Judgement Day when all humanity is judged and thet your soul will then go to the appropriate destination. Obviously your source confused this belief with what you claim. Of course BOTH are in opposition to Catholicism beliefs according to the Monsignor that I spoke with about the topic. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Shan

Please DO NOT tell me what Adventists believe about the spirit. My in-laws were SDA and I studied SDA theology for many years. In all my theology classes, my grades were in the A and A+s. I don’t care what Jews believe. I am not a Jew and do not model my faith system on what they believe. The Jews believe in too many weird things. I think even in Cabala, they believe in reincarnation. Shan

First, Shan said "spirit" not soul. in the Hebrew text these are different. according to the Bible, all living things have a Nefesh (soul). Nefesh is the immortal life force that continues after the body dies. Only humans have a Ruach (spirit). This ruach is the ability to rationally choose between good and evil actions and to make moral choices. Calvinism teaches predestination which is based on the idea that human beings have no ruach (spirit). I am NOT SDA, but I do know a few, and they have tried to get me into their denomination. They believe that humans have both nefesh and ruach. They preach about salvation all the time. So, before you burn down their homes on the word of Shan, who has made a fasle accusation, please share exactly what about SDA you find so dangerous. I do find them "cultish," but my personal feeling about them is not enough for me to call them "dangerous." Compared with the other 25,000+ protestant denominations in the world, the Adventists are quite good at what they do…lulling people into heresy.
I am not sure which "heresy" you are refering to, but the same could be said of Catholicism. And since the accusation is true of Calvnists, you could say the same of the Baptists and Presbyterians. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Al Care to enlighten us as to why you feel they are dangerous? No two religions are exactly the same. Words of hatred and bigotry will cause God’s church to turn against itself and the spirit of Satan (adversary) will split His followers apart. Let’s pray and study together for God to give us a clearer understanding of Scripture.
