Question:
That’s one of the big things I don’t understand about christian religions. … Do you believe that Hitler could have gone to heaven? Tono
Hi, Tono and Rita: Just a friendly *suggestion* that discussions about religion be taken to private e-mail. Pretty please? It’s one of those potentially divisive topics that can end in hurt feelings, IME. Thanks mucho, xxoo Anne

Oops! I knew I shouldn’t have hit that send button, I knew it. I sort of figured since so much of the discusion here is OT, I’d go ahead and do it but you are right, a question like I asked is just asking for problems. Tono

This is a difficult question. Personally I will never forgive the man that stalked me nor the drunk driver that killed my husband’s step-mother, on a personal level I can’t forgive because both these people think they are innocent. On a grander scale I *think* that child abuse, murder, and rape are unforgivable acts. Jess
Response:
After reading all the replies on this question I have come to my own conclusion… Firstly, its obvious that we all have our own opinion and beliefs on the subject which is totally acceptable. No one has to agree with what anyone else says.. but accept that one may not agree with anothers opinion… Here is my thought on the entire thing.. my opinion ( and a bit of personal experience.. ) Not being able, or refusal to forgive, as hard as it is… can cause such bitterness in people. I have watched my sister whither away into an "old lady" at the age of 43.. over bitterness. She looks 60 at her best. I harbored lots of anger towards those who I thought wronged me in life. I was bitter until I allowed myself to forgive the "wrong do’ers" … It is my hope that any wrong doing that I have done towards someone else can be forgiven as well! Stacy

I would like to say everything is unfirgivable. I hold grudges. I’m in early recovery and all of my friends have left.
Response:
Hi, Anne, Hoping you find inner peace and strength in dealing with some of the grudges you are holding onto. I have left many "go" and it makes life more pleasant… smiles, Elise

Response:
Pretty much the same as Tono. Especially if it involves children or anyone especially defenceless – like the elderly or handicapped. I could never forgive anyone who ever hurt my child. Imogen

premeditated murder rape Tono
Response:
The good book says there is only one thing that is unforgivable…. In this world and all the bad things that happen to people, there has to be hope for the perp’s… somewhere… Maybe Im not a "realist" … However I believe anyone can be forgiven if they truely change their ways… Respectfully IMO. Stacy

Hmmm,… this is a very difficult question, and i think that in forming a response there are a number of factors to take into consideration. There are many things that I think are very bad to do, but that does not necessarily mean that they are "unforgivable". I have known people who have had awful things happen to them, and some have forgiven the person who did it and others have not. The people who are forgiving have found it easier to move on and overcome the bad things that have happened to them, so this makes me think that forgiveness is a positive thing for the victim whether or not forgiveness was sought by the perpetrator. However, this response does not directly answer Liz’s question. I think that all wrong-doings are forgivable in general. However, I would not argue that all people should forgive everyone who has ever hurt them. The decision to forgive or not to forgive belongs solely to the victim(s), and I would not try to impose my beliefs upon anyone. Oh I do babble on. x Cath

A very thoughtful question, Liz. I really gave it some thought because my immediate response was that nothing was unforgivable. I thought what about if someone killed my child – could I forgive that? I know a lot of the group might find this hard to believe, but with a lot of time and a lot of help from God, I would be able to forgive the person. Forget it? No, but forgive, yes. That was a human response. Now to a spiritual one…..in the Christian faith, which I believe in, there is nothing that God will not forgive if a person sincerely repents and asks for forgiveness – absolutely nothing! All sins of the world past, present, and future were forgiven on the Cross the day Jesus died. All a person needs to do is accept Jesus as his/her Savior and they are heaven bound when they die. I hope this isn’t taken in the wrong way, but you did ask what we think….:-) xxoo Rita

That’s one of the big things I don’t understand about christian religions. You could be the worst person all your life, murder, rape, do like Hitler, then find religion and all is forgiven. I just don’t get it? Do you believe that Hitler could have gone to heaven? Tono
