You think perhaps we should persecute Christians now? Jeff

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Not many Christian’s are aware of the pivotal input of the Roman Emperor Constantine to the development of the Christian religion. Emperor Constantine(on a whim) made a small sect the official religion of the whole of Roman Europe. This gave an instant take-off to a business that might otherwise easily have died out nearly 2,000 years ago. Perhaps the religion should be called Constantinity?   Constantine did more harm to the Christian church than any single man in the history of the world. It was through persecution that the church grew and became stronger and increased in number. When the church is tolerated it becomes complacent and ineffectual.

Constantine was a shrewd politician. He created a state religion for unification purposes and to serve as a civil service for the empire (There was no whim). Christianity was chosen for the lead role because it had an effective system of charity to help out the poor. However Christianity had to assimilate the other popular religions so as not to alienate non Christians. See ”The Council of Nicea” for how the church of Rome was hijacked for political purposes.
