Christianity QA » Christian Church » Mary, Catholics, and abusing the scriptures
Question:
Well thanks bam for your evidence of proof. I’m sure that "because you said so" is sufficient. That’s what makes a good catholic, they go by what their priests say.
Well, CB if you are inferring that we should only go by what the Bible says, then YOU cannot say anything – nothing. You preach Bible only, so zip your lip. You’re worthless according to your own belief. BAM
Response:
says… John writes: 1 Cor simply doesn’t say that, and in fact says the exact opposite. The passage gives the hierarchy of the Church, a hierarchy fundamentalists are at pains to deny. Fundamentalists deny that there are to be church offices? Where are you coming up with that idea?
Fundamentalists are at pains to deny the hierachy. Which you do. My purpose in citing 1 Corinthians 12:28 is its reference to the apostles as the first order in the church.
What you said was: as the only apostolic material we have today (1 Corinthians 12:28)
I responded: 1 Cor simply doesn’t say that, and in fact says the exact opposite. The passage gives the hierarchy of the Church, a hierarchy fundamentalists are at pains to deny. It still doesn’t say "only apostolic material we have today." The apostles themselves chose successors to their office, as you can read in the Bible. You just quote whatever, whether it applies or not. But then, for one who believes in personal interpretation, what does it matter. It is Humpty-Dumpty religion: "When I use a bible passage, it means exactly what I want it to mean, neither more nor less." Got it, Alice? For an explanation of why I follow the 66-book canon, and why I consider it to be apostolic, read my article on the canon of scripture: http://members.aol.com/jasonte2/canon.htm
Thank you, but I was looking for something Biblical, rather than just your opinions. You see, I am a strict Biblicist in these matters. I know what the answer is, (going strictly by the Bible), but as you claim to be a bible-believing Christian, I demand a *biblical* answer, not mere human tradition. — John C. M
